Invergy Launches 3 GWh Battery Storage Gigafactory in Uttar Pradesh
Invergy has launched a 3 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) gigafactory in Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant step in India's push to localize energy storage manufacturing.
Scale and Significance
At 3 GWh capacity, this is among the largest dedicated BESS manufacturing facilities in India. The factory will produce lithium-ion battery packs, battery management systems (BMS), and integrated storage solutions for both utility-scale and distributed applications.
Why It Matters
India currently imports the majority of its battery cells and packs from China. Domestic manufacturing at this scale directly addresses supply chain vulnerability and positions India to serve both domestic demand and export markets.
Market Context
The India lithium-ion battery market is estimated at USD 6.73 billion in 2026, expected to reach USD 15.17 billion by 2031 at a CAGR of 17.65%. Facilities like Invergy's UP gigafactory are essential to capturing a larger share of this value chain domestically.
For Buyers
More domestic manufacturing means better pricing and availability for lithium battery systems. Expect LiFePO4 prices to continue declining toward the 8,000-10,000 per kWh range for residential systems over the next 12-18 months.
